I can agree with some of this but it sure sounds biased . Seems the right are the ones trying to push their beliefs into the school system just as much as the left is. They just happen to be opposite beliefs and ummm …. Forcing prayer and the Ten Commandments into a school in a country that is full of a diverse mix of people with a diverse mix of religious beliefs is just not right. I’m a Christian saying this lol because I get that I have no right to force my way of life and belief onto another . Also is it possible there’s a different reason there’s more liberals teaching at colleges than conservatives? One reason I’ve heard as to why liberals and conservatives think so differently is that it’s a left brain / right brain thinker or personality type thing that creates the different leanings . It would make sense then that a certain personality type would naturally gravitate towards certain types of jobs.

Honestly, as a teacher, I feel like schools shouldn't even be put in the position to have to address these kinds of issues with kids. At the end of the day, the school has to keep kids safe, and unfortunately, many parents are not safe to be around once a child expresses any gender or sexuality issues. Parents should be the first people that a child comes to when they have questions or issues about this, but many parents are not supportive and can even be abusive. One of our students was brutally murdered by their own father in a domestic violence situation, so that gives you an idea of how ugly it can get when parents and kids can't get along. That kind of violence and animosity puts the school in a really bad position when they have to decide how much to tell parents for fear of what will happen to the child if they do say something. Schools are mandatory reporters, but that isn't always enough to stop a tragedy like the one that happened to our student. My advice to any parent who doesn't want to end up blindsided by something like this: Be that safe space for your kids. Approach the situation with an open mind and a willingness to compromise. Don't be so stubborn and angry that your kid and the school stop including you in the conversation.

Unreal. We’ve always recorded IEP meetings, just let the IEP team know. I hate school districts. They’re not about special needs kids, they’re about keeping their costs down. We had to sue our district to get our son into special placement, we spent 12k on an attorney.

This is upsetting. I had an IDP as a kid and thankfully my parents fought for me and nothing like this happened. As an adult I faced harassment at work from a manager and when I reported what they said in meetings HR sided with them, when the manager said "I don't remember saying that" HR and the "outside investigator" simply said there was no evidence to support my claim that I felt harassed. It's sick.

JJ's parents give hope to all parents that speaking up now and making a difference for the future of your child is in your hands.
